Stacie D. Fenderson, DDS, MS
Dr. Stacie D. Fenderson grew up in central California and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Pacific Union College in the Napa Valley. After graduating from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry with honors in orthodontics and anesthesia, she completed a hospital Dentistry residency in Birmingham, Alabama. Thoroughly enjoying the aesthetic portion of dentistry and appreciating the mechanics of correct occlusion (the way an individual bites together), Dr. Fenderson returned to Loma Linda University and completed a rigorous residency in orthodontics, earning a master’s degree in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics and a certificate in orthodontics in 2007.
Her master’s thesis was conducted in cooperation with Dr. Philip Boyne, world famous oral and maxillofacial surgeon, innovator and researcher. Dr. Fenderson used rat models to develop the technique for distraction osteogenesis of heterotopic bone formed with BMP-2. In simpler terms, she pioneered the development of a way to control the shape of ectopic bone growth using titanium cages, and then demonstrated that this bone could be expanded. The medical use is to enable the body to grow its own bone instead of harvesting hip or other bone for bone grafts. Her research laid the foundation for further orthodontic surgical research. One way this research can be applied to orthodontics is using BMP-2 to augment the placement of Temporary Anchorage Devices where all other options for stabilizing the TADs have failed.
Dr. Fenderson is a board-certified orthodontist and is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists. She is also a member of the American Dental Association and the Sacramento District Dental Society. Her education also includes certification in Invisalign and Clear Correct.
Dr. Fenderson has treated thousands of patients and continues working in her private practice near Lake of the Pines. She will also be joining a well established practice in Susanville, CA in August 2010. When considering specializing in Orthodontics, Dr. Fenderson knew her love for children would play a special part in her practice. Knowing that creating beautiful faces and smiles build confidence in each person she treats brings her satisfaction each day.
Away from the office, Dr. Fenderson is raising Holsteiner and Hanoverian horses in Grass Valley, California. These large, powerful horses are used for dressage and jumping and are often the breeds chosen for Grand Prix and Olympic competition. Dr. Fenderson has grown up with horses and has trained with prominent trainers in the area.
Dr. Fenderson is pleased to work in and live near Lake of the Pines and is excited to bring convenient, quality orthodontics to the area.
In her spare time, she enjoys many sports including wakeboarding, snowboarding, riding and training horses, bicycling, traveling and scuba diving. In the past, she was active in varsity sports in softball, volleyball and flag football.
